2011 began with a clutch of Oscar contenders in True Grit, 127 Hours, The King's Speech, Black Swan and The Fighter. There were also a number of noteworthy documentaries including Senna, Waste Land and TT3D: Closer to the Edge. On the domestic front Parked and As If I Am Not There were well received while The Guard broke all sorts of records. 2011 may also be recalled as the year of Ryan Gosling who graduated to bona fide a-lister with his turns in Drive, Crazy Stupid Love, Blue Valentine and The Ides of March.
